Tuesday Walks

These restart in May, From the Insitute at 2pm.

From our central location we can head off to each point of the compass to find sites of interest in our county town. 

Tuesday 7th May: The Hidden Corners Of Ipswich
Take a gentle stroll round the centre of Ipswich and discover the
stories behind some of the places you may have walked past many
times but maybe never noticed.

Tuesday 14th May:The Victorian Dock
This walk takes us to the waterfront to hear about the problems
faced by the Victorians, and how the dock was created. How the
arrival of the railways regenerated Industry, and how subsequent
changes have created the docks of today.
This walk will finish at the waterfront.

Tuesday 21st May: Northern Lights
Come on this walk to discover so many aspects of the history of
Ipswich, from Vikings to brewers, industry to education,
entertainment and a Grade 1 listed building.

Tuesday 28th May: Crime And Punishment
A journey to the darker side of Ipswich, exploring the prisons and
execution sites of the past.

4th June: Education in Ipswich through the ages.

11th June: The Heart of Ipswich

18th June: Westward Ho! 
There is only one theatre in Ipswich’s West End, but we can
discover a number of statues and two contrasting Grade 1 listed
buildings really close to one another.

25th June: The Legacy of William Leggett: 
Leggett was one of a number of local artists working in the town in
the nineteenth century and twentieth centuries and many of the
buildings he included in his works can still be seen today. This walk
will explore some of them, and consider some of the other Ipswich
artists.
